A first time for everything

This past wednesday I had another newborn session.  I was hoping that perhaps she would sleep through the session, unlike the last baby I photographed, but I didn’t get my hopes up.  When I arrived at the home, the baby had just been fed & changed & was on her way to sleep.  Still, I did not get my hopes up.  They told me normally after she eats, she is comatose.  I’m sure you know where this is heading…

Yes, she did fall asleep, but no she didn’t stay that way.  She’d be sleep, we’d try to take her clothes off & then she’s wake up.  I figured, OK, she’s awake so we’ll take pictures with mommy & daddy.  Let’s just say she didn’t exactly smile.  She was a bit fussy, but there was a lot going on around her & I’m sure she didn’t want to miss anything.  We tried calming her down, which didn’t always work, but did help me get some interesting shots.  Eventually we go to a point where she was somewhat relaxed & I was able to photograph her…wide awake.

There are a lot of details within this story, but I will summarize to keep it brief.  She did a number 2 on my white backdrop.  Oh I’ve had babies pee on the black one, but never poop on either of them.  Needless to say we were all surprised at the little gift she had made for me.  Fortunately I had another white backdrop that we could use.  So we just cleaned up everything & continued after she finished her business.

Regardless of what happened, I still enjoyed the shoot.  The baby was precious, as all babies are & the parents were happy to have pictures, but I’m sure they were glad when the session was over too.

About Ayesha

I am a married, mother of one & a passionate photographer. I've been shooting since I was 11 & am mostly self-taught. Attended the Art Institute of Atlanta to further hone my skills & in 2003 decided to start my own photography business, working part-time. In 2005 I was able to start working full-time & I love it. During my growth phase, I was vacillating between the types of photography I wanted to do. After several sessions, I realized that I wanted to specialize in children & couples. I still photograph other subjects, but those two are my favorites. At any rate, it's all about the relationship between my subjects & me & capturing those special moments.
