Do what you love

Do what you love & love what you do is my mantra.  I think it’s important to find something that fulfills you.  As they say, if you do what you love you will never work another day in your life & I can attest to that.  Ever since I’ve been a photographer, I have enjoyed my “work”.  Any time someone calls me to photograph them I feel like the luckiest person in the world.  No matter how long I shoot or in what types of weather, I never feel like I am working.

Not only does loving what you do not feel like work, but helps you improve what you’re doing & you make sure that you are doing your best at it.  I’ve been shooting since I was 11 & shooting professionally since 2003 & to me the only difference now is that people pay me.  If I could make beautiful images for people (& myself) without having to charge, I would!  But the world being the way it is, I do have to make a living.

If you’re not doing what you love for a living, is that really living or is it just doing what you have to do to survive?  When I was a software consultant, initially I loved what I did, but eventually I got burned out from it & it no longer gave me the rush of excitement when a new project came along.  The money I was making was excellent, but it just didn’t make me happy.  Money can’t buy happiness.  It can however buy things that you think will make you happy or will make you happy for a little while, but eventually that will fade.  Figure out what makes your heart sing & then see if you can make a living out of it. You’ll never know until you try.

About Ayesha

I am a married, mother of one & a passionate photographer. I've been shooting since I was 11 & am mostly self-taught. Attended the Art Institute of Atlanta to further hone my skills & in 2003 decided to start my own photography business, working part-time. In 2005 I was able to start working full-time & I love it. During my growth phase, I was vacillating between the types of photography I wanted to do. After several sessions, I realized that I wanted to specialize in children & couples. I still photograph other subjects, but those two are my favorites. At any rate, it's all about the relationship between my subjects & me & capturing those special moments.
