How much is too much?

Being a photographer I am challenged with various issues at times surrounding my images.  The main one is how much retouching should I do.  I’m all about making my clients look their best, but without making them unrecognizable.

Once I had a client that wanted me to do all kinds of things like make her eyes bigger, get rid of all of her wrinkles & remove her double chin.  At the time, I was new to photography & thought if that’s what she wanted, that’s what I’ll do.  After it was over, I just felt so wrong.  Don’t get me wrong, the woman looked great, but she also looked like the photo was taken about 10 years before!  The important thing to me at that time was that they were happy with the images I produced.

Paramount to anything is that my clients are happy.  I still do retouching, but it’s more realistic & people will recognize them as how they currently look, but at their absolute best.

About Ayesha

I am a married, mother of one & a passionate photographer. I've been shooting since I was 11 & am mostly self-taught. Attended the Art Institute of Atlanta to further hone my skills & in 2003 decided to start my own photography business, working part-time. In 2005 I was able to start working full-time & I love it. During my growth phase, I was vacillating between the types of photography I wanted to do. After several sessions, I realized that I wanted to specialize in children & couples. I still photograph other subjects, but those two are my favorites. At any rate, it's all about the relationship between my subjects & me & capturing those special moments.
